Physiological response of red macroalgae Pyropia yezoensis (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) to light quality: a short-term adaptation

چکیده

Light quality is a common environmental factor which influences the metabolism of biochemical substances in algae and leads to response algal growth development. Pyropia yezoensis kind economic macroalgae that naturally grows intertidal zone where light environment changes dramatically. In present study, P. thalli were treated under white (control) monochromatic lights with primary colors (blue, green, red) for 14 days explore their physiological quality. During first 3 treatment, grew faster blue than other qualities. next 11 days, it showed better adaptation green light, higher rate photosynthetic capacity (reflected by rETRmax = 61.58 Ek 237.78). A non-photochemical quenching was observed treatment red others days. Furthermore, also results difference pigment contents. The could reduce synthesis all pigments, but reduction degree different, may relate spectral absorption characteristics pigments. It speculated adapted specific or changing environments regulating pigments achieve best use energy photosynthesis premium metabolism.

Different Responses to Heat Shock Stress Revealed Heteromorphic Adaptation Strategy of Pyropia haitanensis (Bangiales, Rhodophyta)

Pyropia has a unique heteromorphic life cycle with alternation stages between thallus and conchocelis, which lives at different water temperatures in different seasons. To better understand the different adaptation strategies for temperature stress, we tried to observe comparative biochemical changes of Pyropia haitanensis based on a short term heat shock model. The results showed that: (1) At ...

The Sex and Sex Determination in Pyropia haitanensis (Bangiales, Rhodophyta)

Pyropia haitanensis has a biphasic life cycle with macroscopic gametophytic blade (n) and microscopic filamentous conchocelis (2n) phase. Its gametophytic blades have long been believed to be mainly dioecious. However, when crossing the red mutant (R, ♀) with the wild type (W, ♂), the parental colors were segregated in F1 blades, of which 96.1% were linearly sectored with 2-4 color sectors. Whe...

Pyropia plicata sp. nov. (Bangiales, Rhodophyta): naming a common intertidal alga from New Zealand

A commonly found red alga of the upper intertidal zone of New Zealand rocky coasts is described for the first time as Pyropia plicata sp. nov. This species has been incorrectly known as Porphyra columbina Mont. (now Pyropia columbina (Mont.) W.A.Nelson) for many years. Pyropia plicata is widespread and common, and it is readily distinguished from other species of bladed Bangiales in New Zealand...

Four new species of Pyropia (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) from the west coast of North America: the Pyropia lanceolata species complex updated

Recent molecular studies indicate that the Pyropialanceolata species complex on the west coast of North America is more speciose than previously thought. Based on extensive rbcL gene sequencing of representative specimens we recognize seven species in the complex, three of which are newly described: Pyropiamontereyensis sp. nov., Pyropiacolumbiensis sp. nov., and Pyropiaprotolanceolata sp. nov....

Minimally destructive sampling of type specimens of Pyropia (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) recovers complete plastid and mitochondrial genomes

Plant species, including algae and fungi, are based on type specimens to which the name of a taxon is permanently attached. Applying a scientific name to any specimen therefore requires demonstrating correspondence between the type and that specimen. Traditionally, identifications are based on morpho-anatomical characters, but recently systematists are using DNA sequence data. These studies are...
